At a Crossroads

We live in momentous times. We are about to witness the largest government expansion in our country's history--no matter what standards you use. The New Deal and The Great Society were mere down payments. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the portions of retirement and health care that the government already controls, are on the verge of an unfunded mandate in the 10s of trillions of dollars. They are abysmal failures in the macro-economic sense. No matter how many stories you read about Social Security helping some old woman avoid the choice between food and medicine, the fact is they are unsustainable liabilities. What is the solution proposed by the President and Congress?? "If you just let us handle ALL OF IT we'll be just fine."

Furthermore, they wish to place an energy burden on the citizens of the United States through a cap and trade system. They wish to redistribute wealth from "rich" people, through tax increases, to lower income people, through energy tax credits,  to help them pay the increased energy costs which they, themselves have created through cap and trade. If that confused you, you're normal. If that sound like circular logic, or just plain idiocy, that's because it is. On top of that, they're using as a reason the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the citizenry of the globe--"Global Warming." It is my contention that modern-day environmentalism is the new home of totalitarian socialism in the world.

It's really quite simple: We created a free society that, to a large extent, works. We live better that anyone else in the world. Even the people we call "poor" in this country likely have a car and a cable bill. Because of that the rest of the world is envious, and there are some even in Washington who actually feel guilty because we are so prosperous. And, because a lot of the rest of the world (and a lot of our own Congress) thinks in socialist terms, they play the class warfare game. Rich vs. poor, black vs. white, democrat vs. republican. These are tactics used by tyrants in order to instill fear. It is all subterfuge to hide the real goal, which is government control of the economy. Socialism. Communism. Fascism. Totalitarianism. They are all systems of the same ilk. Or, at least, the lighter forms of the previous two will eventually (and always) descend into one or both of the latter two.

Capitalism is the only economic system that is compatible with freedom and individual liberty--period. The reasons why I believe that will be explored in greater detail on this site in the coming months.

When I say "Capitalism" I don't mean the system we have now. Indeed, a true Capitalist system has never existed on this Earth. But it needs to.

What we have now, a kind of government regulated Capitalism, does not tackle the problem we face.

The problem is this: what the government calls "regulation" is really nothing more than an unholy alliance between certain business interests ( who I absolutely refuse to call Capitalists) and politicians who play favorites with those business interests. Usually based upon the level of campaign contributions from said "business interest."

And all too often their conversations end with: "Thanks for your support. By the way, I've got a son-in-law who's looking for a job. You could give him all the degrees in the world and he'd still be too stupid to make it. He knows nothing about business, but he needs a job and you've got one. So make it happen and you've got my vote"

The founders were brilliant guys. They came up with the greatest political system yet to exist on the planet. But they forgot one amendment (and I must admit that I got this from a book of fiction, but it still applies):

Congress Shall Make No Law Abridging the Freedom of Production and Trade.

That is the only way we can break the millennia-old grip on power that politicians have held over individuals. That unholy alliance, and the resulting grip, strangles personal freedom and it must be severed.

I'm just a regular guy. But I don't intend to remain quiet while my country is ruined by power hungry politicians who clearly no longer have the public's best interest as their first interest. Thankfully we still have a little of the Constitution left. That allows regular guys like me spout whatever they wish without fear of government reprisals...so far. The internet is the modern way of doing that, so, what the hell, I though I'd give it a try.

We need to throw them all out. Republicans and Democrats, alike. I wish we could have a complete turnover in congress. My motto is this: No matter who your congressman is, vote for the other guy. It's impossible to do in any 1 election cycle, so I guess that would be one of those "unattainable goals" that self-help people like to talk about.

I've just rented some web space that I'd like to dedicate to that cause. I haven't set it up a web page yet, but there will be a blog coming soon at www.vote4theotherguy.com/wordpress

DISCLAIMER: No offense is intended toward women by naming the site vote4theotherguy.com. The desire to have something that sounds "catchy" is what I was following here, and that's what I came up with.

This site, as well as the blog, are still officially under construction but soon I'll have all sorts of interesting content (I hope). Any questions go to mailto:tim.jerhoff@federalistfrontier.com
